The ratio in our Baby Room #1 is one teacher for every four infants with the total of eight infants and two staff members. The ages of the children in this classroom range from 6 weeks to 12 months old. Here, we try to establish a routine, but the needs of every individual child are different and routines are not always that easy to establish. In this classroom we can also accommodate the needs of breastfeeding mothers by providing a nice comfy chair and privacy, if desired. This room has a refrigerator to keep breast milk or formula, bottle warmers, and a Sparkletts water dispenser cooler for those babies that take formula. Parents are welcome to bring pre-made bottles of formula, fresh or frozen breast milk, or formula for the baby room teacher to prepare. In this room each infant is assigned a crib, and we provide the bedding; blankets are not permitted in cribs according to DHS regulations as they can be an asphyxiation hazard. The room has both inside and outside cubbies for the parents to leave supplies for the children and for the teachers to store each child’s personal supplies such as diapers, wipes, creams, and extra clothes. Each day the teacher writes “Daily Grams”, these will tell you a bit about your child’s day...what they are eating, how long they napped, diapers change times, and such. Teachers also use Daily Grams as a way to communicate whether your baby needs any extra supplies. Our teachers create and implement developmental curriculum plans for each age level. Reading, singing, sign language, art, and Spanish words are part of our lesson plans.
